Parent Involvement Plan

School Parent and Family Engagement Plan
Hickory Creek Elementary School
2020-2021
Revised June 2020

What is Family Engagement?

Family Engagement means the participation of parents and family members in regular, two-way meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school school activities ensuring:

That parents play an integral role in assisting their child's learning.
That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education.
That parents are full partners in their child's education and are included,as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in Section 116 of ESSA.

About the Parent and Family Engagement Plan

In support of strengthening student academic achievement, Hickory Creek Elementary School has developed this parent and family engagement plan that guides the strategies and resources that strengthen school and parent partnerships in the district's Title I schools.  This plan will describe HCES commitment to engage families in the education of their children and to build the capacity in our Title I school to implement family engagement strategies and activities designed to achieve the district and student academic achievement goals.

When schools, families, and communities work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and enjoy school more.  Title I-Part A provides for family engagement at every level of the program, such as development and implementation of the district and school plan, and in carrying out the district and school improvement provisions.
Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains the primary Title I-Part A requirements for schools and school districts to involve parents and family members in their child's education.  Consistent with Section 1116, HCES will work with the district to ensure that the required school-level parent and family engagement plan meets the requirements of Section 1116(b) and included, as a component, a school-parent compact consistent with Section 1116(d) of ESSA.

JOINTLY DEVELOPED

Each school year parents, staff, and students are asked to complete a survey about Hickory Creek Elementary School and the effectiveness of our program.  These surveys are reviewed and discussed to determine how best to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
In August at our school registration, we encourage parents to view a presentation about our school and invite parents to join us in our efforts to make HCES the best it can be. Parents are encouraged to come to our PTO meetings, Leadership meetings, school events and Family Nights throughout the school year.  The school parent and family engagement plan is posted on our school website and distributed during the annual Title I school meeting at our school registration in August.

Communications
Hickory Creek Elementary School will compile a contact group from the August Title I meeting and share this with our PTO, ELL translators, HCES Leadership Team, and planning committees for Family Night, so that parents will be notified of upcoming meetings and events in a timely manner. Meeting times will be flexible to allow for various work schedules and may provide child care with available Title I funds.
Each student at HCES will receive a HCES handbook that lists all our school procedures.  Teachers and parents will use the calendar in the handbook to contact each other about the childís homework and upcoming events such as parent Teacher Conferences or Family Nights.  Monthly newsletters will be sent home with students and information will be posted on the Hickory Creek Elementary website.
Each school year, Warren County Schools will also conduct an evaluation of the content and effectiveness of Hickory Creek Elementary Schoolís  parent engagement plan and family engagement activities to improve the academic quality of our Title I school through the annual Parent Climate Survey. In January, HCES will send home an email link to the Climate Survey for parents to provide valuable feedback regarding the school program.  The survey link will also be posted on the district and school websites.  HCES will use the results from the survey to improve school practices and programs, to remove possible barriers to parent participation, and to revise the parent engagement plan.

Building Capacity of Staff and Parents
Hickory Creek Elementary School will coordinate with other Federal, State, and local organizations, businesses, and community partners to provide additional support and resources that encourage and support families in more fully participating in the education of their child.  Teachers and staff at HCES will communicate and assist parents by building relationships of trust between family members and the school.  All staff will participate in family engagement activities.

Warren County Schools invites any parent to attend a district Parent Advisory Council Meeting to share ideas and to build partnerships with schools, families, and the community.  The council meets every month during the school year.  Please visit  www.warrenschools.com  to view the meeting schedule.  If you would like to be a parent representative for Hickory Creek Elementary School, please contact Mr. Mansfield at the school or by email.
