D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E. was started in 1983 with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The reason the program was started was that it seemed nearly
impossible to stop people from using drugs and they thought it would
be a good idea to educate the kids about the dangers of using drugs
and how to not get involved in drugs.

D.A.R.E. was started in Warren County in 1994 by Sheriff Jackie Matheny.

Sheriff Matheny is very passionate about the D.A.R.E. program and he
still teaches to this day.

Warren County Sheriff’s Department now has a total of six D.A.R.E.
Officers teaching to over 500 students in all of the elementary and
county schools.
